Local writer condems MD 14% Increase
On Tuesday, Dec 10, James Drake, an outdoor writer from MD wrote a scathing article about the incredible joint decision by VA, MD, and their bonus commercial vote on the ASMFC – the Potomac River Fishery Commission to raise the quota in Chesapeake Bay by 14% in order to kill as many of the one good year class of stripers produced in the Bay since 2003 as possible. Here is a LINK to the story. We have long agreed that if nothing else the Potomac River Fishery Commission has no place on the ASMFC. The management board is otherwise made up of states. The PRFC is a separate authority controlled by MD and VA to manage fishing on the Potomac River that runs between the two states. It is redundant, and simply acts as a shill to give the commercial interests another striped bass vote on the ASMFC.
