When Bill get’s tying it’s hard to get him to stop! This year in addition to the first classic striper fly selection Bill has also tied 6 Angus Striper flies. Here is what Bill had to say about this pattern:
“Brad – I tied you some Eric Leiser Angus flies for the auction. It’s the best squid pattern I’ve ever personally used. The only 40# striper I’ve hooked in Maine took a white Angus on a bright sunny day.
The Angus is sort of another historic striper fly. I haven’t seen anything about this pattern for probably close to thirty years. It is along the line of Cartherwood’s “Giant Killers” with a deer hair head and lots of marabou, but a rather reduced version. I first saw it in a Fly Fisherman back in the early ’80s. It was listed in Lefty’s first edition Salt Water Fly Patterns, but it didn’t make the revised edition in 1995. It’s always been a big fish fly. – Bill”
